About

Hello!  I’m Emily, the Señora behind Stories by Señora.  I am a high school-turned-elementary Spanish teacher in my 16th year.  I teach kindergarten-3rd grade in Smalltown, USA.  Teaching from a cart (oh the joys!), I travel to 15 classrooms 3 times a week.

I am by no means an expert, but I love learning about how we acquire language and I’m always trying out new ideas.  I’m excited to share ideas and hope it will be helpful to other educators.

My Language Journey

I often tell my students how lucky they are to start learning Spanish in Kindergarten.

I started with a basic 6 week course in 6th grade, as was common back then.  My grandparents were medical missionaries in Central America when my mom was young.  I loved hearing stories about their lives there and how they learned and used Spanish in their daily lives.  All that to say I was hooked from early on.

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to be a camper at the Concordia Language Villages.   I also traveled with them to Spain for a month the summer of my senior year of high school.  Staying in the monastery across the way from the Santiago de Compostela cathedral was quite impactful.

I went on to work as a counselor at CLV and then added education to my Spanish major.  I’ve always loved working with kids!  I honestly believe teaching language to kids is the best job out there.

I look forward to learning and growing through this blog!
